Rosin refers to a non-volatile natural resin obtained from pine rosin through different processing methods. Rosin is an important chemical raw material, widely used in soap, paper, paint, rubber and other industries. From its source, rosin is divided into three types: gum rosin, wood rosin and tall oil rosin.

1. Gum Rosin
The rosin is obtained by harvesting and collecting pine resin. Then it is processd and refined to be gum rosin. Its advantage is that the pine trees can be harvested and collected continuously for a future utilization of resources. Rich in rosin resources, China is the country with the largest output of gum rosin.

2. Wood Rosin
the rosin is processed via extracting the resin from leaching the chopping pine roots and tree trunks with a solvent. Wood rosin is mainly produced in the United States.
Now there is a large shortage of wood rosin raw materials due to the reduction of original pine forest resources in the southeast of the country.

3. Tall Oil Rosin
It is obtained from the black liquor in wood kraft pulping of paper making industry. Originally, the performance of tall oil rosin is not as good as that of gum pine.
In recent years, its quality and performance are now similar to that of gum rosin. The output of tall oil rosin still keep relatively stable due to the increasing capacity of tall oid distillation but a reduced proportion of pine wood used in papermaking.

4. Processed Rosins
Beside the abovementioned three natural rosins, there are also series of deep processed rosin products such as hydrogenated rosin, disproportionated rosin, polymerized rosin, maleated rosin, modified rosin resin, rosin esters and modified rosin resins (136 rosin glycerides, 138 rosin glycerides, 145 rosin pentaerythritol esters, 210 rosin modified phenolic resins resin, 422 Malay modified rosin glyceride, 424 Malay modified rosin glyceride, etc.), rosin nitrile, rosin amine, rosin modified phenolic resin, Rosin modified alkyd resin, rosin modified unsaturated polyester, chlorinated rosin, cable rosin, refined shallow rosin, etc.
